Ingredients

Salisbury Steak Patties
  • 1 lb (454 g) ground beef
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Mushroom and Onion Gravy
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 cup sliced onion
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
Optional Gravy Thickener
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • 1 tablespoon water (optional, for thickening)

Method

Preparation
  1. Place the ground beef, bread crumbs, finely chopped onion, milk, egg, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Mix until combined, then form the mixture into oval patties.
Cooking
  1. Warm the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the beef patties until browned on both sides, then move them to a plate.
  2. Place the sliced mushrooms and sliced onion in the same skillet. Cook until the vegetables have softened.
  3. Add the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce to the skillet and stir to combine. Return the browned patties to the gravy.
  4. Simmer the patties in the gravy for 15-20 minutes, or until the beef is cooked through.
  5. For thicker gravy, combine the cornstarch and water in a small mixture. Stir it into the skillet and continue stirring until the gravy thickens.
Serving
  1. Serve the Salisbury steak patties with the mushroom and onion gravy.
